Page Break for Per Se v1.0!

April 13th, 2011

This is exciting! Last night I was motivated to figure out page breaking for the first release of Per Se. Page breaking lets you write on the right side of your journal without filling up the left side first and without pressing the return key a dozen times to get there.

This has been a widely requested feature and one I was initially planning to postpone for a 1.0.x update. But I was struck by a text I read in the wee hours of the night and abruptly decided it was worth the effort. It definitely was!

Page breaking works beautifully in Per Se, and naturally I think as well. If you want to leave the rest of the left side of your journal empty, you can simply double-click on the right side and start writing there. You may continue to fill up the pages with photos, flourishes and attachments without changing the page break. And you can return to the left side and add more writing without affecting the text on the right side — until you reach the bottom of the page of course. To get rid of it, you just delete the text until the cursor is back on the left side.

The decision led me to a deeper analysis of page layout in Per Se that touches on metaphoric interfaces and visual cues when recognizing the data you are looking for.
